"Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is the third installment in the hugely popular Grand Theft Auto series of games, developed by Rockstar North. It was released in October 2004. San Andreas is set in the fictional city of San Fierro, a sprawling metropolis on the Californian coastline, which has been divided between two warring drug cartels. In an effort to make a political point, the government has declared the state a "Sanctuary City" in which the Bill of Rights are not applicable, allowing the city to bypass the official justice system. Each of the game's major factions, the Cartel, the Merryweather Family and the Aryan Brotherhood, control one of the city's five boroughs. The characters are voiced by series veterans and newcomers alike. This game features the first-ever solo career mode for a Grand Theft Auto game. The player begins as Carl "CJ" Johnson, who is named after the actor who played Carl Johnson in the film American Graffiti. It is developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games.
Story
During a night-time drive on the south coast, the player crashes and is thrown from the car. The player is dragged into an underground river by a hippo-like creature, known as the "Grinder". After being helped from the river, the player is offered a deal by the drug lord Roman Nevikov. The player is to infiltrate the community-managing Home-Invasion Team, to steal the drugs and kill any who stand in the way of this mission. The player is given the mission, but is asked to take a little "help" along with the mission. This means that the player has to hijack a military helicopter and drop a pair of grenades on a specific point in the city, so that the grenades can be used by the player to drop down on Roman Nevikov's target, the Merryweather Family, a group of drug lords who control one of the boroughs.
